Vancouver Island University is a regional institution located in the mid-island region of Vancouver Island. The student body is made up of about 14,400 individuals from Canada and approximately 90 other countries. About 12 percent of students self-identify as Indigenous and about 14 percent are international. VIU is comprised of three campuses located in Nanaimo (the main campus), Duncan and Powell River. There are variety of regional sites that serve educational research purposes including the Deep Bay Marine Field Station, Milner Gardens and Woodland and the G.R. Paine Horticultural Centre among others.
